When I attempt to install XP (from an Sp2 CD), the keyboard completely stops working. I have an old Dell Optiplex GX280 that I need to install Windows XP on. Mighty tough to install when all your forms of input cease to function. Be prepared to repeat the lesson 2 or 3 times. this

There is on on-board PS/2 connector, but you need a custom Dell PS/2 bracket with matching cable because Dell uses a non-standard connector. I can't hit "enter" to install XP, or anything else.
I'm guessing that this is not a terribly new system, since it looks like it doesn't want to recognize USB devices before Windows and its drivers are in place. ****
Another option, and possibly less drastic, is to activate a restore point in the operating system prior to when the mouse stopped working. Even used the ps2 keyboard with that usb converter it was working fine. I have a realtek wireless usb adaptor on my hp desktop that was working until I took it out of the usb on the front of the tower and plugged it check my blog The adapter works fine under most situations however, it looks like Windows XP Professional Setup can't handle it.
