I can see that there is 6.96 gigs used on that drive with .93 gigs available so I'm pretty sure thats the recovery. pctek you mention to run chkdsk however to do so I need to be able to access Windows setup don't I? Is there anyway to initiate Windows setup on the restore partition from a cmd prompt, a XP floppy startup disk or some other aproach. Since you removed the battery its probably reset the BIOS settings. That is what I read on HP's websire - that HP Pavilion uses F1 key for BIOS.
